Discount calculator

Work out the price after a discount, or two discounts one after the other, and how much you save.

₹
The price before any discount.
%
For example 20 for 20% off.
%
Optional. Applied after the first discount. Use 0 for none.
Price to pay
₹800.00

20% off ₹1,000.00 is ₹800.00: you save ₹200.00.

What you save
Original price₹1,000.00
You save₹200.00
Total discount20%
Price to pay₹800.00
Successive discounts multiply: 20% then 10% off is 28% off in total, not 30%. Taxes are not included.

How it's calculated

Final price = Price × (1 − d₁) × (1 − d₂)

d₁ and d₂ are the discounts as decimals. The second discount applies to the already-reduced price.

Assumptions

  • The extra discount is applied after the first one.
  • Taxes are not included.

Worked example

20% off 1,000 and then a further 10% off gives 720: a total discount of 28%, not 30%.

Questions

Why is 20% plus 10% not 30% off?

The 10% applies to the reduced price, so it saves less than 10% of the original price.

Does the order of the discounts matter?

No. 20% then 10% gives the same final price as 10% then 20%.

Is tax included?

No. Add any sales tax, VAT or GST to the final price if it applies.
